Nonuttin' Foods Inc :: SOY FREE Facility
| SOY FREE Facility |
September 28, 2012
We are very pleased to announce that we are now SOY FREE and are in Phase IV as indicated below.
In the spring, we made the decision to transition away from soybeans and soy lecithin and the process to do so has been completed in the following steps:
PHASE I COMPLETED MARCH 31, 2012
- Dry roasted soybeans were removed from our production floor
PHASE II COMPLETED MAY 28, 2012
- Removal of all products containing chocolate with soya lecithin (granola bars, trail mixes and chocolate chip and chunk pouches)
- Soy allergen testing added as a requirement to our current protocol for all current and incoming ingredient supplies
- Thorough cleaning for production facility from lights/ceiling/walls down to the floor
- Soy testing on equipment and surfaces to ensure soy removal
PHASE III BEGAN JUNE 1, 2012
-
New organic allergy friendly 55% cocoa mini-chocolate chips and 70% chocolate chips added to our recipes
-
This superior quality organic chocolate is manufactured for us in a dedicated facility with only cacao products (i.e. cocao beans, cocoa butter, cocoa), organic evaporated sugar and coffee beans.
PHASE IV – PACKAGING PHASE OUT TO BE COMPLETED 2013
While we are soy free as of June 1, 2012, some labels and packaging may still say "May contain: soy" for some time to come.
Why? We're an environmentally and cost conscious company and throwing out reams of packaging and labeling isn't very earth friendly and increases costs. By using up most of our old packaging, we save both the Earth and your pocketbook. We expect that using the packaging may take up to a year on some products.
Bottom line:
All items in the Nonuttin' online store are now soy free even if the package says "contains: soy" or "may contain: soy".
Any packaging you see in a store or in your home that is dated before June 1, 2013 DOES contain soy or was subject to soy cross-contamination!
Double Chocolate Chunk Granola Bars
You may notice that our double chocolate chunk granola bar has round chunks now rather than the square. This is because we weren't able to get organic allergy friendly 70% chocolate in the square chunks you're used to. So we've moved to a drop of the same size in 70% cocoa. Yummy, just round instead of square.
Once we've used up our double chocolate chunk packaging, we will be moving to a double chocolate chip with the 55% cocoa mini-chocolate chip instead. We promise it's still super delicious!
New Packaging Declaration
When you do see our new packaging, you'll know it because there are new icons on the front that look like this:
On the back of those new packages, you'll also see a declaration that says:
This delicious product is produced for you in our own dedicated facility that is free of the most common food allergens (peanut, tree nuts, dairy, egg, soy, wheat, sesame, shellfish, fish and mustard), gluten, preservatives, colors, artificial flavors and genetically modified ingredients.
Thank you for your support of our decision to go soy free.
Regards,
Alana and Rob Elliott
