It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post and there’s been a good reason; I’ve been locked in my closet with SunCups. Not really, of course, but not too far off the truth.
The month of March was extremely busy, thus the dearth of blog posts, and one of the things I was busy doing was attending a Canadian Trade Mission in California which included the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim. Attending the Expo was a great opportunity to see what’s new on the market (more about that in another post), what other companies are doing, and to introduce myself to other allergy friendly manufacturers that I’ve often only talked to on the phone.
One of the booths I stopped by was SunButter because it’s my favorite peanut butter alternative that is safe for my house. So I went to thank the representatives and happened to get talking to Davie Lurie from Seth Ellis Chocolatier who was in the SunButter booth. Lo and behold, David introduced me to his SunCups and gave me some samples to take back to my hotel room. That was the beginning of my addiction.
For a little background; I’ve been able to give up all of the peanuts, shrimp, shellfish, nuts, kiwi and chickpeas in my house fairly easily, especially now that dairy is not longer a problem. But if you see me at Halloween while I’m cleaning out my daughter’s treat bag of all unsafe treats, you might note how reluctantly those peanut butter cups leave my hands. It was the one thing that I truly missed indulging in. But now I have an alternative that’s even better.
Now, if you haven’t tried SunCups yet (which are not available in Canada at this time) and you love peanut butter cups, you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Not only are the SunCups nut free, they’re gluten free and use organic fair trade chocolate in either dairy or dark. And I’m a sucker for really high quality chocolate but the pairing with the sunflower seed butter inside is drool worthy.
So upon our arrival home I ordered a case (yes, a case – 120 packages worth) because the shelf life was 9 months and David assured me they could be frozen. Why bother? I’ve already given away a few packages to friends with various food allergies but the rest are reducing at a terribly rapid rate. So I’ve told my husband to hide them. He doesn’t know I found them last night. He, he, he. He’ll have to get his own: http://www.sethellischocolatier.com/ .
